Critic Bradley Gates, rating 8/10, says -
The plot of the Star Trek Beyond is so "light" in its essence it lacks the moral dilemmas, the exploration as well as the development usually within the Star Trek universe. There was neither message nor any character evolution and we didn't learn more about anything. Instead of Kirk, Spock and Scotty any name could be stuck by you on the protagonists and nobody might have noticed. The story was full and atrocious with plot holes patched up by unnecessary although flashy. Star Trek Beyond has one of the weakest villains in its history. It was not the actors fault and this kind of shame to waste the opportunity of having a strong artist like Idris Elba. It was the fault of the director as well as the writer who missed the possibility to take back Star Trek . There was nothing to debate along with your friends following the movie or something to push you to prod its meaning or to stir your imagination. Nothing that way on a run-of-the-mill plate for the audience, everything was given at all.
