Rafe Khatchadorian, who appreciates a passion for art instead of much else, transfers midyear to Hills Village Middle School after being kicked from his preceding one. On his first day, he meets with Principal Dwight, who runs the school with the iron will and drives pupils to comply with the extensive list of rules that are senseless; Ida Stricker who's in alignment with his bully approaches assists him. An assembly focused on the BaseLine Evaluation of Academic Preparation standardized test, after that same day, directed by Dwight, is interrupted when Rafe’s sketchbook where the principal had been drawn by him as a zombie duplicating over and over “BLAAR” is grabbed by another pupil. Dwight answers as it was filled with his private work by ruining the sketchbook, much to the dismay of Rafe.
After that day, Rafe is back in his room with his buddy Leo; the latter implies that, to get even, Rafe should ruin Dwight’s novel, i.e., his rule book. This results in several pranks meant to reveal the ridiculousness of these rules. These pranks get the interest and admiration of Rafe’s fellow pupils, the only person in the AV Club who sees the pointlessness of Dwight’s rules, including Jeanne Galletta. Leo, nevertheless, indicates firmly to Rafe that he not show himself only yet. Several pupils are framed by him in the class by secretly placing things in their own lockers which make it seem like they were responsible for the pranks.
It signifies what may function as only choice left while recognizing that it'sn’t perfect. She also pauses to reflect smaller brother is ’sed by the passing of Rafe two years before; it's subsequently disclosed that Leo was, actually, his brother. Jeanne shows up at Rafe’s house with a surprise after that evening; she'd recorded Dwight placing the items “uncovered” in the pupil lockers himself in pulling together a documentary about the school. With this evidence, Rafe, Jeanne, and Georgia pull together a strategy to get back at Dwight, and collect the pupils from your remedial course outside the middle school, in addition to the dissatisfied janitor. Another morning, Jules finds that neither Rafe nor Georgia are house and becomes concerned about their disappearance, but when Bear reveals more anxiety in the fact that his car is lost, she eventually understands he is only a self-centered jerk, after giving him back his engagement ring to buy damages to the auto deliberately inflicted by Georgia.
A day later, with BLAAR testing prepared to start, his classmates and Rafe interrupt processes and expose Dwight’s deceitfulness. Fed up with Rafe’s inferred disobedience, he starts to pursue him. Rafe is afterwards seen outside the school conversing with Leo after dark; the latter tells him that, since Rafe has made friends he's no further needed to fill that emptiness. As Leo departs on a spaceship Jeanne and Rafe share a kiss, breaking rule number 86, the last rule Rafe needed to break.
