Today marks the launch of a brand new action comedy with Bruce Willis, and also a curious thing it is. Once Upon a Time in Venice sports a really incredible cast, that are subsequently put as cartoon characters at a shallow pastiche of crime tales. Enter a world where each man or woman has been characterized by stereotype, yet has released by a narrator.
Steve's lifestyle is a small mess, and with his wimpy nerd helper John and older buddy Dave he attempts to fix numerous bizarre instances. These range from locating a local missing lovely young sex enthusiast, to quitting a graffiti artist out of decorating a building's facade with pornographic pictures.
Before you know it, these shenanigans lead to Steve skateboarding because of his lifetime, being chased by hookers and transvestites, becoming the rear of his mind painted blue, and progressively pissing off each significant gang in Venice Beach. Whoops...
If this sounds fun or exciting, that is likely because it ought to be, however, the result never really hits the "cool" factor it appears to target for. For starters, none of those tales actually pack much of a pinch, along with the characterization has a few significant issues. Worse, most girls are yummy yet untrustworthy sex items, determined on greatest, lethally conniving at worst. Do not even attempt to execute any type of Bechdel test with this movie...
Once Upon a Time in Venice isn't completely bereft of charm however. And many celebrities do get a couple moments to glow. Jason Momoa understands a few good laughs in as the neighborhood drug dealer Spyder, of course having too much fun with his paper-thin function as he could. The always dependable John Goodman works wonders for nearly nothing. Bruce Willis can do it in his sleep. Cameos abound, although these often make you wonder. Famke Janssen shows up in a couple of scenes and I do not believe her screentime surpasses a moment. She is literally there merely to function as "Steve's-divorced-sister-who-he-cares-for", together with nothing to do, and that is a waste.
